Gao). Restricted computing power has become one of the primary factors obstructing advancement in basin simulations for majority of hydrological models. Parallel computing is one of the most available approaches to solve this problem. Using binary-tree theory, we present in this study a common parallel computing framework based on the message passing interface (MPI) protocol for modeling hydrological processes of river basins. A practical and dynamic spatial domain decomposition method, based on the binary-tree structure of the drainage network, is proposed. This framework is computationally efficient, and is independent of the type of physical models chosen. The framework is tested in the Chabagou river basin of China, where two years of runoff processes of the entire basin were simulated. Results demonstrate that the system may provide efficient computing performance. However, primarily because of the constraint of the binary-tree structure for drainage network, this study finds that unlimited enhancement of computing efficiency is impossible to realize. 2011 Elsevier B.V. River Flow Simulation Using SWAT Physically Based Model in Barandouzchay of Urmia Lake River Basin

Nowadays, there are too many models in the world for simulation of hydrological processes, such as the SWAT physically based model. The SWAT model is a continuous and physically based hydrologic model that is the smallest unit in this model is Hydrologic Response Unit, and all hydrological processes are simulated in each of these units. This model can simulate runoff, sedimentation, erosion and...

A New Hydrological Method for Estimating the River Bed and Drainage Basin Components of Erosion and Suspended Sediment Fluxes in River Basins

This paper uses the results of river suspended sediment flux (SSF) analysis to propose a new hydrological method for quantitatively estimating the river bed and drainage basin (sheet erosion, rill and gully erosion) components of total erosion intensity in river basins. The suggested method is based on the establishment of the functional power connection between mean monthly water discharges (W...

"Technical Report" Flood Hydrograph Simulation Using HEC-HMS Model in Sarbaz River Basin of Sistan and Baluchestan Province

Hydrological models are simplified representation of the real basin system, which helps to assess basin function in response to different inputs and better understanding of hydrological processes. The HEC-HMS model is one of the most important hydrological models for Flood estimating volumes and discharge in watersheds. In this research, the HEC-HMS hydrologic model was used to simulate the ...

Investigation of Climate Change Impact on Water Resources for an Alpine Basin in Northern Italy: Implications for Evapotranspiration Modeling Complexity

Assessing the future effects of climate change on water availability requires an understanding of how precipitation and evapotranspiration rates will respond to changes in atmospheric forcing. Use of simplified hydrological models is required because of lack of meteorological forcings with the high space and time resolutions required to model hydrological processes in mountains river basins, an...
